1UP Outdoor 2024 Training Menu & Technical Details

All sessions are carefully designed by head coach and founder Graham Fisher which consists of all important player habits needed to excel and improve in today's modern game within GAME REALISTIC training activities. Graham blends his 7 years of youth & professional experience in Germany, Ireland, Spain & England, with his 3 National Coaching licenses to bring the players and coaching staff a second to none training environment.

Sessions Structure

Each session consists of three fast paced, game realistic mini stations, for around 18 minutes each, usually consisting of:

  1. Unopposed Activity (No defenders)

    • High repetition, lower amount of decision making

  2. Opposed Activity

    • Higher amount of decision making, lower repetition

  3. Mini Game

    • Fast paced, game realistic, designed to bridge gap between technical learning’s and player’s games.

Session Topic Breakdown (Objectives & Coaching Points)

1) 1st Touch Passing & 1st Time Finishing (May 6th - 12th)

Objective: Many passes, and most goals are made with the first touch! Players will gain the ability to make better and more consistent passes with their first contact, and score more goals with one touch finishes!

Coaching Points:

  1. Early Decision

  2. Body shape set early (clear or disguise?)

  3. Body over the ball

  4. For Pass - Inside of foot contact, move sharp after pass

  5. For shot - Accuracy over power, aim for bottom or top corners.

2) Turning on 1st Touch & Speed Dribbling (May 13th - 17th)

Objective: Get forward on your first touch! Players will gain the ability to turn on their first touch (on the “half turn”) to be able to pass or dribble forward to become more dangerous!

Coaching Points for Turning on 1st Touch:

  1. Before pass comes, make sure there is space to go forward

  2. As ball is travelling towards you, half turn

  3. Take touch with inside of door closer to goal

  4. Spin aggressively at exact same time as first touch

  5. Dribble forward, pass forward, or shoot!

3) Volleys & Aerial Control (May 21 - 26th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to control the ball from the air using all parts of their body and get more shots on target while the ball is in the air.

Volleys:

  1. Effective ball protection (safe side)

  2. Body Shape (Straight hips towards goal)

  3. Toes down and locked, laces contact

  4. Timing of Strike (height)

  5. Controlled follow through

  6. Bravery!

Aerial Control:

  1. Recognition of defenders & space while ball is in the air

  2. Effective ball protection (safe side)

  3. Quick selection of body part control method (Foot, thigh, chest)

  4. Decision on distance of touch (Spiderman touch, or explosion touch)

  5. Focus & concentration of next decision (Shot, pass or dribble)

4) Mini Games Week (May 27th - June 2nd)

Objective: Players will have the freedom to enjoy competitive mini games, in an attempt to show, perform and execute the previous 3 weeks of learnings. Players will be given tips and encouragement on how to translate 1UP training topics into their club training sessions, and more importantly, their club matches! Enjoy the Process!!!

5) Escape Skills & 1v1s (June 3rd - June 9th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to dribble, manipulate, protect and evade opponents in pressure pockets containing 2 or more defenders.

Coaching Points:

  1. Rapid touches with BOTH feet

  2. Find the space to escape

  3. Creativity and disguise

  4. Effective ball protection (safe side from nearest defender)

6) PLAY & MOVE! Short & Long Range Passing (June 10th - June 16th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to receive and pass at varying distance quickly and accurately (or play one touch) to increase your speed of play in possession to become a more dangerous player.

AFTER PASS:

  1. Vision & Awareness before receiving (decision made before pass arrives)

  2. Select body shape

  3. Select pass type

  4. Pass technique & execution

  5. Find the next space quickly!

PING (Long, high, lofted pass)

  1. Sideways touch

  2. Hips facing target

  3. Toes out/laces pointed to sky

  4. Contact “Chin” part of ball (bottom of ball)

  5. Contact with top of toes, not ankle

  6. APPEARANCE: Backspin, higher than defenders, no power, lofted!

7) Vision & Awareness (June 17th - 23rd)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to affectively scan and play while receiving the ball, recognizing space, defenders and teammates. The ultimate objective is to be able to have plan A and plan B before ball is received.

Coaching Points:

  1. Double movement to shake defender

  2. Demand ball

  3. See space in front

  4. Technique of Shoulder Check

    1. Side on body shape “check shoulder not back”

    2. Length of check - “take a picture not video”

  5. Timing of Shoulder Check - For short pass, before the pass is made

    1. Check too early? Picture behind can change

    2. Check too late? Technique fails

  6. Body shape

    1. Facing desired direction

    2. Facing away from desired direction (disguised)

8) Games Week (June 24th - 28th)

Objective: Players will have the freedom to enjoy competitive mini games, in an attempt to show, perform and execute the previous 3 weeks of learnings. Players will be given tips and encouragement on how to translate 1UP training topics into their club training sessions, and more importantly, their club matches! Enjoy the Process!!!

9) “All Out Attack” (July 2nd - 7th)

Objective: Develop a cutting edge in front of goal and become more confident finishing in small areas under pressure and with intensity.

Coaching Points:

  1. Early Decision (attack the space)

  2. Body shape set early

  3. Body over the ball

  4. Follow through towards target

  5. Find the bottom corners

10) Delay, Deny, Destroy (July 8th - 14th)

Objective: To become confident in 1v1 duels against attackers, learn to defend and win the ball so we can attack.

Coaching Points:

  1. Arrive at the ball quickly

  2. Slow down as you get close

  3. Get low and delay

  4. Wait for a trigger to win the ball

    • bad touch

    • attacker’s head is down

    • attacker turns their back

11) “Joga Bonito” (July 15th - 21st)

Objective: Players will learn and practice a blend of skill moves, tricks and freedom to allow them to explore their touch with very minimal direction and lots of correction, helping them “Play Beautifully.”

  1. Rapid touches with BOTH feet

  2. Find the space to escape

  3. Creativity and disguise

  4. Effective ball protection (safe side from nearest defender)

12) Protecting and Shielding (July 22nd - 28th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to effectively use their bodies to protect the ball from defenders.

Coaching Points:

  1. First to the ball

  2. Shift weight towards defender (Low hips)

  3. Create maximum seperation (side on body shape, ball far away, arm up!)

  4. Whats next? “Vision while protecting”

13) 1v1 Mania (July 29th - August 4th)

Objective: Players will be exposed to multiple different types of 1v1 scenarios to help them make better and quicker decisions while becoming more comfortable on and off the ball.

Coaching Points:

  1. Commit defender OR protect ball (depending on 1v1 situation)

  2. Analyze space between defender and ball

  3. Analyze space behind defender

  4. Disguise and creativity!

14) Long Range Strikes & Volleys (August 5th - 11th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to control the ball from the air using all parts of their body and get more shots on target while the ball is in the air.

Volleys:

  1. Effective ball protection (safe side)

  2. Body Shape (Straight hips towards goal)

  3. Toes down and locked, laces contact

  4. Timing of Strike (height)

15) Die Mannschaft (June 12th - 18th)

Objective: Quick combinations with 1-2’s to have players think quickly and make decisions before they get the ball.

Coaching Points:

  1. Scan and Plan

  2. Analyze space between defender and ball

  3. Analyze space behind defender

  4. Play and Move

  5. Change of pace after ball beats defender ball

16) FIFA Street (August 26th - September 1st)

Objective: Allow players to learn and explore different moves, and experiment them in game-speed 1v1’s.

Coaching Points:

  1. Rapid touches with BOTH feet

  2. Find the space to escape

  3. Creativity and disguise

  4. Effective ball protection (safe side from nearest defender)

  5. Quick speed of play

  6. Be Brave!

17) Vision & Awareness (September 3rd - September 8th)

18) 1v1 Attacking (September 9th - September 15th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to beat defenders by both dribbles and a double pass with teammate

Coaching Points:

  4. Decision: Dribble or pass (try to add disguise)

  5. Change of pace after ball beats defender ball

19) Advanced Passing (September 16th - September 22nd)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to receive and pass at varying distance quickly and accurately (or play one touch) to increase your speed of play in possession to become a more dangerous player.

Coaching Points:

20) Advanced Dribbling (September 23rd - September 29th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to manipulate, protect and change directions, evade pressure and become more dangerous, all at game speed!

  1. Changing directions with one touch

  2. Ball 1st, hips 2nd

  3. Freedom with the ball (Creativity & flair)

  4. Effective ball protection (safe side)

  5. Find open space

21) Protecting & Shielding (September 30th - October 6th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to effectively use their bodies to protect the ball from defenders.

Coaching Points:

  1. First to the ball

  2. Shift weight towards defender (Low hips)

  3. Create maximum seperation (side on body shape, ball far away, arm up!)

OCTOBER: POSITION SPECIFIC

During the month of October, players in this program will be learning techniques, positions and tactical awareness for the following positions:

  • OCTOBER 7TH - 13TH: DEFENDER (CENTERBACK & FULLBACK)

  • OCTOBER 14TH - 20TH: MIDFIELDER (DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD & ATTACKING MIDFIELD)

  • OCTOBER 21ST - 27TH: ATTACKERS (WINGER & STRIKER)

25) Games Week (October 28th - 30th)

Objective: Players will have the freedom to enjoy competitive mini games, in an attempt to show, perform and execute the previous 3 weeks of learnings. Players will be given tips and encouragement on how to translate 1UP training topics into their club training sessions, and more importantly, their club matches! Enjoy the Process!!!
