All sessions are carefully designed by head coach and founder Graham Fisher which consists of all important player habits needed to excel and improve in today's modern game within GAME REALISTIC training activities. Graham blends his 7 years of youth & professional experience in Germany, Ireland, Spain & England, with his 3 National Coaching licenses to bring the players and coaching staff a second to none training environment.

Session Topic Breakdown (Objectives & Coaching Points)

1) Tiki Taka Passing (May 2nd - May 7th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to receive and pass quickly and accurately (or play one touch) to increase your speed of play in possession.

Coaching Points:

  1. Vision & Awareness before receiving (decision made before pass arrives)

  2. Select body shape

  3. Select pass type

  4. Pass technique & execution

  5. Find the next space quickly!

2) Vision & Awareness (May 8th - May 14th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to affectively scan and play while receiving the ball, recognizing space, defenders and teammates. The ultimate objective is to be able to have plan A and plan B before ball is received.

Coaching Points:

  1. Double movement to shake defender

  2. Demand ball

  3. See space in front

  4. Technique of Shoulder Check

    1. Side on body shape “check shoulder not back”

    2. Length of check - “take a picture not video”

  5. Timing of Shoulder Check - For short pass, before the pass is made

    1. Check too early? Technique fails

    2. Check too late? Picture behind can change

  6. Body shape

    1. Facing desired direction

    2. Facing away from desired direction (disguised)

3) Goal Scoring - 1v1 vs Goalkeeper & Strikes (May 15th - May 21st)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to both score on goalkeepers in 1v1 situations and score from distance with both feet.

1v1 vs Goalkeeper

  1. Dribble at speed towards middle of goal with frequent close touches

  2. Find gaps in goal

  3. Decision (Slide ball on floor, beat GK 1v1 or chip over GK)

  4. Be calm and trust yourself

Strikes

  1. Hips facing goal

  2. Big Step Towards Goal

  3. Heel to butt (engage thigh)

  4. Plant beside ball

  5. Contact (with laces, toes down, strong ankle)

  6. Follow through

  7. Land on shooting foot

4) Long Range Passing (May 22nd - May 27th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to effectively play multiple long range pass techniques both on the ground and in the air.

Coaching Points:

DAISY CUTTER (Laces, firm pass along ground)

  1. Sideways touch

  2. Hips facing target

  3. Toes out/laces pointed to target

  4. Contact “Moustache” part of ball (just below the centre of ball)

APPEARANCE: Backspin, no higher than a “Daisy”.

PING (Long, high, lofted pass)

  1. Sideways touch

  2. Hips facing target

  3. Toes out/laces pointed to sky

  4. Contact “Chin” part of ball (bottom of ball)

  5. Contact with top of toes, not ankle

APPEARANCE: Backspin, higher than defenders, no power, lofted!

5) Mini Games Competitions Week (May 28th - June 4th)

Objective: Players will have the freedom to enjoy competitive mini games, in an attempt to show, perform and execute the previous 3 weeks of learnings. Players will be given tips and encouragement on how to translate 1UP training topics into their club training sessions, and more importantly, their club matches! Enjoy the Process!!!

6) 1v1 Defending (June 5th - June 11th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to deny forward progression via a dribble, pass or shot and regain possession. Players will also learn tools to deal with defending outnumbered (2v1)

Coaching Points:

  1. Closest player to the ball closes attacker down with speed

  2. Angle approach to dictate situation (force away from pass if a pass is an option)

  3. Low hips, on toes. Patience!

  4. Timing of tackle (put body in the way)

    1. Bad touch

    2. Miscontrol

    3. ball far from attacker

    4. Close to goal

  5. Regain possession, don’t kick it away!

7) Goal Scoring - Crosses & Volleys (June 12th - June 18th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to effectively create and score from crossing scenarios, especially when the ball is in the air.

Crossing:

  1. Hips towards target

  2. Choose specific target

  3. Contact bottom of ball

  4. Loft, not power

Volleys:

  1. Hips towards target

  2. Choose specific target

  3. Contact bottom of ball

  4. Loft, not power

8) Advanced Dribbling - Cuts & Turns (June 19th - June 25th)

Objective: Players will gain the ability to manipulate, protect and change directions, evade pressure and become more dangerous, all at game speed!

Coaching Points:

  1. Changing directions with one touch

  2. Ball 1st, hips 2nd

  3. Freedom with the ball (Creativity & flair)

  4. Effective ball protection (safe side)

  5. Find open space

Objective: Players will have the freedom to enjoy competitive mini games, in an attempt to show, perform and execute the previous 3 weeks of learnings.
